Former partner of Lavan & Walsh, which became Phillips Fox Perth. Experienced in commercial contracting, mining law and corporate and ASX compliance. A former member of the Australian Mining & Petroleum Lawyers Association, as well as serving as a non-executive director for several companies.

Kang Rong

Executive Director

Commenced career as a chemical production engineer in Shenyang with the Shenyang Chemical Company, with an involvement in trading and administration, including on Hainan Island for the Japanese trading company, Nissei Ltd. Joined Astron in 1995 and has been a key contributor to the establishment of Astron’s downstream processing and global marketing and sales activities, with a deep knowledge of the mineral sands product market and its key participants. Board member since 2012.

Tiger Brown

Commenced working with Astron in 2018, holding various business development planning and executive roles in China and Australia. Appointed as a non-executive director of Astron in December 2019.

Dr Mark Elliott

Non-executive director

Diploma in Applied Geology, Ballarat School of Mines, PhD. University of NSW, FAusIMM

Appointed to the Board January 2021. A geologist with extensive experience in the resource sector. 27 years experience in corporate roles, both as Chairman and Managing Director on a number of ASX-listed and private companies. Associated with identifying and securing resource projects, capital raisings, marketing and completing commercial agreements, feasibility studies, mine development and project execution.

Tim Chase

Head of Global Operations

Technical and Business Operations Management qualifications, GAICD

Tim joined Astron in 2015 as General Manager of Operations. He has over 25 years of experience within the mining industry, including extensive experience in mineral sands in project design and planning, project management and execution and operational roles. Tim was involved in the design and commissioning of several mineral sands projects in the Murray Basin, including the Gingo and Snapper mineral sands deposits in roles including Senior Production Co-ordinator, Bemax Resources and Mine Manager, Cristal Global.

Kang Rong brings to her management roles extensive experience in all aspects of Astron's marketing, distribution and downstream operations. This has included extensive engagement, over several decades, with a wide range of mineral sands customers and end-consumers, both in China and in other global markets.

Matthew Suttling

Chief Financial Officer

Matthew is an experienced Chartered Accountant and registered tax agent who has been operating in Public Practice since 2003, as well as working with multiple ASX listed mining and commercial companies, utilising his expertise and experience to advise on matters including management accounting, IPO's, budget development and maintenance, capital raises and financial modelling.

Joshua Theunissen

General Counsel and Company Secretary
Joshua is a solicitor with over 25 years of corporate and commercial experience in areas including commercial law, mergers and acquisitions, the Corporations Act and ASX Listing Rules. Joshua has served as Australian company secretary and legal adviser for Astron since 2007.
