Sustainability

Creating value responsibly

Astron adheres to strict standards to protect the environment and strengthen local communities throughout our operations.

Environmental management

Under the Victorian Government’s strict regulatory framework, Astron, through the Donald Project joint venture with Energy Fuels Inc, must implement comprehensive environmental management across the life of the Donald Project.

This includes:

  • Detailed management plans covering air, noise, water, and cultural heritage
  • Regular monitoring of air quality, groundwater, and radiation levels
  • Sharing monitoring results with the local community and other key stakeholders at periodic Environmental Review Committee meetings
  • Consulting with the Barengi Gadjin Land Council, the Traditional Owner representative body

Land management

Our land management approach aims to achieve high standards for mined land rehabilitation. As outlined in our Mine Rehabilitation Plan, we will implement a rolling rehabilitation program that:

  • Restores the land progressively for future use as mining advances
  • Implements detailed soil reinstatement procedures following extraction
  • Engages with the community during the process
  • Provides regular progress reporting

Community partnership

Astron has maintained an active presence and proactive, open communication in Minyip for more than 20 years.
The Donald Project is expected to deliver regional benefits, including:

Creating 600+ direct and indirect jobs across technical, trade, and service roles

Adding A$205 million annually to gross regional product

Partnering with local stakeholders to develop skills training and career pathways

Supporting locals to stay in or return to the region by offering new opportunities
