Appointed to the Board July 2021. More than 30 years’ resource industry experience, at both Senior Executive and Board levels, with a number of listed and unlisted resource companies with interests including minerals (including mineral sands), energy and industrial services in Australia, the Americas, Asia, Africa and Europe. He has also served as an advisor to mining and energy companies in Asia and Australia, providing corporate finance and strategy advice.

Gerard King, AM

Non-executive Director

LLB, University of Western Australia, AICD

Former partner of Lavan & Walsh, which became Phillips Fox Perth. Experienced in commercial contracting, mining law and corporate and ASX compliance. A former member of the Australian Mining & Petroleum Lawyers Association, as well as serving as a non-executive director for several companies.

Kang Rong

Executive Director

Commenced career as a chemical production engineer in Shenyang with the Shenyang Chemical Company, with an involvement in trading and administration, including on Hainan Island for the Japanese trading company, Nissei Ltd. Joined Astron in 1995 and has been a key contributor to the establishment of Astron’s downstream processing and global marketing and sales activities, with a deep knowledge of the mineral sands product market and its key participants. Board member since 2012.

Tiger Brown

Commenced working with Astron in 2018, holding various business development planning and executive roles in China and Australia. Appointed as a non-executive director of Astron in December 2019.

Dr Mark Elliott

Non-executive Director

Diploma in Applied Geology, Ballarat School of Mines, PhD, University of NSW, FAusIMM

Appointed to the Board January 2021. A geologist with extensive experience in the resource sector. 27 years experience in corporate roles, both as Chairman and Managing Director on a number of ASX-listed and private companies. Associated with identifying and securing resource projects, capital raisings, marketing and completing commercial agreements, feasibility studies, mine development and project execution.

Greg Bell

Chief Financial Officer

B.Com (Accounting), University of Melbourne

Greg starts with Astron in October 2022. He has finance and accounting experience spanning more than 21 years, working initially in corporate advisory and assurance services with Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, followed by 8 years with Mineral Deposits Limited (MDL) as Accounting Manager and then Chief Financial Officer. Subsequent to MDL, Greg held both consulting and executive roles with international mineral sands and resource companies, including in the critical minerals sector.

Commenced working with Astron in 2018, holding various business development planning and executive roles in China and Australia. Appointed as a non-executive director of Astron in December 2019.

Sean Chelius

Donald Project Director

Sean jointed Astron in January 2022 as the Project Director for the Donald Mineral Sands and Rare Earth project. Sean has over 30 years international experience in mining project planning and implementation, including full responsibility for taking projects from concept through to commissioning and production. His experience involves project management and engineering roles in Australia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Papua New Guinea and Fiji.

Peter Coppin

Peter has over 20 years’ experience in mining geology in Australia across multiple commodities including gold, nickel and mineral sands, in both production and exploration teams.

Jessica Reid

General Manager of Sustainability

B.Eng (Honours), B.Sc (Zoology), University of Melbourne

Jessica joined Astron in May 2023 as General Manager of Sustainability. Jessica is an experienced environmental and social professional, working across Australia and PNG on natural resource and major infrastructure projects for over 18 years. Skilled in environmental and social assessment and management, engagement and collaboration, compliance and regulatory engagement, she has strong team management and major project delivery experience. She brings experience in delivering sustainable outcomes through environmental and social impact assessment and management and identification of community values.

Kang Rong

Kang Rong brings to her management roles extensive experience in all aspects of Astron's marketing, distribution and downstream operations. This has included extensive engagement, over several decades, with a wide range of mineral sands customers and end-consumers, both in China and in other global markets.

Karen Shelton

Human Resources Manager

Karen’s experience in mining operations includes gold, metallurgical and thermal coal, bauxite and underground silver/lead/zinc as well as minerals sands experience gained in NSW and WA. Karen has also delivered corporate HR functions within remote health, power distribution, defence contracting and higher education organisations in both private and public sector contexts, and has a strong interest in rural communities and regional development.

Joshua Theunissen

General Counsel and Company Secretary

B.Law, B.Sc, University of New South Wales

Joshua is a solicitor with over 25 years of corporate and commercial experience in areas including commercial law, mergers and acquisitions, the Corporations Act and ASX Listing Rules. Joshua has served as Australian company secretary and legal adviser for Astron since 2007.
